About Saluda, SC - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Saluda, South Carolina is a town with about 3,500 residents, covering two square miles. It was originally established under the name of Redbank, but when Saluda County was formed in 1896 the town was chosen to be the county seat and its name was chosen to match with that of the county. Local industry in the Saluda area today includes several farms, a clothing manufacturer, and a number of retail establishments. The Saluda County Library is located in Saluda, and the town also boasts the historic Saluda Theater, built in 1936, and the Saluda County Historical Society Museum, which shares the same building as the theater. Other notable attractions include the early 1800s Bonham House, which was the boyhood home of Saluda's very own Alamo hero, James Bonham. The Bonham House is actually thought to be the only home of an Alamo defender still in existence today. James Bonham's younger brother, Milledge Luke Bonham, also grew up in this house and went on to become governor of South Carolina. The Bonham House is on the National Historical Landmark Registry, as is the Marsh-Johnson House, an early upcountry plantation home built prior to 1825.
Saluda has a mild, four season climate typical of the region. In spring and summer residents enjoy swimming, boating and waterskiing in nearby Lake Murray, also a popular spot for fishing and bird watching. In August the town celebrates the annual River Lake Festival, and in October the Larry E. Gentry Memorial Golf Tournament and the Ridge Spring Harvest Festival are held. The holiday season is marked by a Christmas parade each December.
