About Greenwood, SC - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Greenwood, South Carolina is the county seat of Greenwood County, and has a population around 23,000. It is located in the state's Upper Savannah region, about one hour north of Augusta, GA and one hour south of Greenville, SC. The town's first residence, a 600-acre plantation named Greenwood, was built in 1823 as a summer home, but the town really started to grow after the railroad came through in 1852. It was chartered in 1857, and has continued to grow to the point where it is now the center of economic activity for the surrounding counties. The Park Seed Company is headquartered in Greenwood, and Fujifilm makes its North American Headquarters in this city. Lander University, a private four-year institution, opened its doors here in 1904, as did the two-year Piedmont Technical College in 1966.
Greenwood also offers a number of tourist attractions, including boating and fishing in the 11,000-acre Lake Greenwood, hunting in the Sumter National Forest, and tennis at any of the city's numerous first-class tennis facilities, including those at the Civic Center Complex. Although Greenwood does have a four-season climate, it tends to be fairly mild year-round, with an average temperature of 68 degrees. Winters aren't too chilly and precipitation is rare, but summers tend to be on the humid side. Visitors and residents alike, however, find summer temperatures little impediment to enjoying Greenwood's two main yearly celebrations. June's "Festival of Flowers" is sponsored in part by the Park Seed Company, while July’s "Festival of Discovery" is sponsored by the Uptown Greenwood Development Corporation and celebrates South Carolina history and culture.
